There is such a multitude of pleasant works (not only for piano) which were and still are created there that it will be interesting to be engaged in a study of these compositions.
Representative of this wide variety of musical work are names like Alo Pöldmäe, Romuald Kalsons and Jonas Tamulionis. At the end of the edition you get to know more about these composeres.
We hope you take pleasure in this VIA BALTICA journey, which leads from Tallinn and Pärnu (Estonia) via Riga and Bauska (Lithuania) to Kaunas (Latvia) near the border to Poland.

VIA BALTICA I Alo Pöldmäe (3)
VIA BALTICA II Romualds Kalsons (10)
VIA BALCICA III Jonas Tamulionis (23)

ISMN 979-0-2024-2684-5

Estonian Tobias wrote not nearly so imaginatively as his countryman Karindi (whose romantic 1944 Lullaby is a lyric beauty), and the thick, slow, intense harmonic progress of the Kalejs score (a memorial to Latvian victims of the Soviet regime) serves best to set up the vivacity of Bach's G-major "fantasy." In it and the following chorale prelude, the Silberman-inspired Schuke instrument sounds better than in the modern, moody piece by Kutavicius (originally for two organists, based on a Ciurlionis painting titled Funeral Symphony). But this is a realistic slice-of-life-andculture from three former Eastern bloc countries. Performances are dedicated and, like the recorded sound, up to this label's high standard.

(The American Organist March 1998)
