The "Visit to the Zoo" is a prelude to a bassoon trio, whose members know the extent of the instrument. The first voice is the most demanding because of the occasionally occurring listing in tenor clef on. The first bassoonist to play about two years and be around 14 years old. The pieces are created programmatically and require musical onomatopoeia, such as the trumpets of the elephants, the jumps of the Apes, the growl of the lion, the floating of the fish or the Toddle the Bear. The often polyphonic vocal line trains the rhythmic interplay.
